Using stone at your BOL

I was wondering why no one talks about using stone at your BOL?

In this part of MO, it’s all rocks and red clay. Rocks are the biggest crop.

If you’re buying “raw” land, you will have to cut a driveway in, and clear a spot for your new home place and out buildings. After all the equipment gets done(stumps, very basic leveling), you will have rocks all over. I’ve “chunked” more that 1 field. And you haven’t done any foundation and septic work yet.

Or your buying a established place that’s half woods and fields. Just wait till you bush hog the first time or cut hay. You will be picking up rocks. The land patent on this place was dated 1878(or 9?). And the farmers have been throwing rocks into the woods ever since.

Do you have a creek on your new property? Then you have some flat stone also, to go with all the field stone you have been picking up. And after every good rain, there will be more.

Which do you have more of, money or time?

Rocks are a real pain to deal with. I’ve been digging, picking up and moving, and making piles, for three years now. They have to be handled many times. They are free, but not cheap in terms of time, labor, tools for shaping and cutting, and hours of studying different types and styles of stone work.

Can or do you use rock/stone work at your BOL or retreat?
