Hot house taste

Old fart, energy is neither created or destroyed. The energy from the sun is absorbed by the plant and that energy is stored in the tomatos in the form of calories.

I have been thinking that the bland taste might be due to the hot house tomatos getting less light energy than the tomatos that are grown in the summertime, but I am guessing. I think it sounds plausible but I do not really know.
