Russian Orthodox Paratrooper Priests

Orthodox priests as chaplains have been a regular part of the military of the Russian Federation for two decades. However, the first post-Soviet nation to introduce chaplains to their military was Belarus in the mid-1990s when Orthodox priests were installed in the newly created chaplain corps of the Byelorussian Army.

Nowadays, Orthodox military chaplains are sent all over the huge expanse of Russia and overseas to tend to the spiritual needs of Russian servicemen and women. Priests parachute into inaccessible areas with mobile chapels that can be set up within an hour or two.
