Carpentry Question - Stair Stringers

I need a set of outdoor steps to give me fifty inches of rise from the ground to a deck. Stringer calculators tell me I need 7 steps, but all the lumber yards I found only sell 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8 step pre-cut stringers.

Can I buy an 8-step stringer and cut off one step? I would think not, but I am NOT a carpenter.
