Get the level iv stand alone plates from Midwest armor then you don't need the soft armor.
Then get a quality plate carrier. |
(Side Note - I always feel like I'm having to ask for advice on here and this is a topic I can contribute to with a level of experience)
I've got a set of level IV plates along with a plate carrier as a gift, and I can't emphasize enough that it WILL affect your mobility as well as your overall stamina when moving across any kind of terrain for distance.
When I first started getting physically fit I wore this on normal walks, then jogs, and then I started putting my magazines for basic load on it to simulate the real weight. With full load out on the plate carrier (front & back plate, 210 rounds of 5.56 in 30 round magazines, 64 oz hydration bladder, 51 rounds of 9 mm in three 17 round magazines and IFAK) I came out right under 50 lbs. This is EXCLUDING my BOB or INCH gear.
Not for the faint of heart, for sure. The modern "light" infantryman carried approximately 100 lbs total of gear for movements of up to 12 miles a day in the Middle East, with some of your heavy weapons crews carrying even more. Please understand though that at the first suspected contact with the enemy they removed all but plate carrier, etc.
It really depends on how you plan to maneuver and what you're planning to carry on your back.
Body armor?
