Classified Ads Question

Kevin and mods, I love this site but I am surprised there is not more vigorous classified section activity here given the community. I wonder what might be done to catch traction with that, maybe some kind of forum event, like a barter fair, or church-sale cake-walk type thing where people can post an item donating the proceeds to the site, or a charity, or a member in need? (Or some other way to remind members the classifieds exist and create the habit of using it)

Anyway, my real question is: If I post an ad in the classified section, is it ok to make references to the ad in relevant threads? Taking that further, would it be too shady to start a legitimate discussion thread relative to the topic and shoehorn in a quick reference or link to a classified listing? I completely understand the need to keep people from coming here to spam stuff, but I've noticed vendors are allowed a little leeway in linking their ads when it's pertinent, and want to make sure in advance that would not get me in trouble with the management.

Also ( and actually unrelated), I'm not a business at all but I did make about 100 units of a super cool (and very professionally packaged) ultra compact prepper toiletry kit because it contains about 80 items and you have to buy that stuff in bulk to make sense. If I were to try and sell about 50 of those here, could I do that in the classifieds, or would I need a Vendor account?

Anyway, I value my status here and want to keep it. Thanks in advance for your guidance and this great forum.
