Gas vs. electric

Gas vs. electric

I seem to see a lot of posts about people who have purchased a rural place converting from electric to gas appliances and I was wondering about the reasoning behind this.

Yes, from a cooking standpoint I would much rather have gas than electric, but from a survival/shtf standpoint (after all this is a survival forum)?

Most places that I have seen over the years that are setup on propane tanks, because they are outside the service area for natural gas pipelines, have their tanks sized to be refilled every few months or sometimes twice a year. While that makes for a great setup for normal day to day or any short term scenario, anything that lasts for any longer than a couple of months would still leave you running out of fuel(depending on when your last fill-up was).

I would think that since gas is a finite resource that will run out after a period of time, that period of time to be dependent on the size of your tank and how much you use on a daily basis, it might be better to move to electric with solar and/or wind generated power with a wood burning stove for backup heat and cooking.

Having never had a place that ran off of this type of power, I am just not sure about the pros and cons. Am I thinking right, or am I way of base on this? I really don’t know and am interested.

Thanks.
