For example, boneless pork loin was on sale for $1.40, so I bought 40 pounds. I will not need to buy pork again for 3-4 months. I will simply use what I have.
2 months ago I bought spaghetti sauce at $1 off per jar, a bottle of DH's favorite dressing for 75 cents off, and 2 boxes of frosting for 50 cents each. All went into the pantry o be used when I want to eat them. Every week when I shop I look for sales on the foods we like: My entire pantry was stocked that way. You can call it preps if you like or a pantry if you like: if it does hit the fan we have a good amount of food set by, and we will eat well.
We also have a kerosene heater, a big dehydrator, rice, and other good items.
I live on the edge of a city, and I have a very large back yard with a garden, fruit trees, and a home made greenhouse.
My grocery bill dropped by a good amount because I no longer buy food at full price, and the savings will buy water filters and such, and the three fruit trees last spring, and so forth and so on. I figure my pantry can save me $300 per year, and that is about what I spend on preps.
How much money do you spend on preps?
