Living off the land environment criteria..

Another thread discussing INCH kits and/or EWLS or survival kits seems to be, like most of those threads, caught up in the "how can you carry enough gear and supplies...?" questions.
I don't happen to believe that there are many places where a person could pack or haul enough gear to live
indefinitely in the wilds. Certainly we have many advantages over our forefathers in gear and supply choices. We have better steel for tools, more specialized gear, better navigation, better general survival technology, better weapons, better medicine and knowledge of medicine and health and nutrition needs, lighter more nutritious foods with longer shelf life, better mobility due to advanced shelter options, better clothing and on and on. However these gear and supply advantages don't compensate for basic lack of places to go.
So I want to try and outline the basic critetia that an AO (area of operation) would need to make it possible to sustain yourself in the wild like so many seem to believe they can do.

1. Location must be one that would have a very low population density to limit competition for available resources. Taking that a step further, it should akso be a location that would limit an increase in population density after a SHTF event, due to its difficulty to access, or its defensibilty to prevent access or plain old fear that could keep people away.

2. Obviously the AO needs an abundance of resources, not just in available protein, but in foragables (man cannot live on protein alone), material for shelter construction, clothing construction, cordage manufacture, etc.

3. Abundant water resource. It doesn't require imeadiately potable water. We have technology to overcome tainted water. But..water has to be available year round.

4. A temperate climate is prefered. An enormous calorie requirement is needed to overcome cold. On top of that food resources become extremely limited in winters. A temperate climate means longer or even year round growing seasons and year round forage.

5. A reliable source of salt.

So that gets us going. Lets talk about actual locations and other criteria.
