forcing a hen to go 'broody"?

I can do a search if you point me in the right direction.

Long story short, ended up with 2 chicks, turned out to be hen and rooster.
She is starting to lay now, about 6 eggs a week.

Made a nesting box in the coop and another under her favorite bush. They free range and she picked her own spot.By the time I found it,there were 15 eggs.

I marked 4,threw away the rest.Since then she lays in the same spot, about 2 weeks now.

So...if I put her on the nest in the coop and block it off,put feed and water in there..well she stay on the eggs and hatch them. There are no other hens around to "teach" her.

I'm only getting 1/2 dozen eggs a weeks,so it would be kinda neat to she if she could hatch a batch and maybe up the production next spring.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
