I posted in the General Section because it didn't seem to fit any of the categories but Mods or Admin feel free to move this if appropriate.
I watched a news report that was done locally where they interviewed 86 convicted burglars to get their advice on preventing burglaries.
It was quite an interesting news piece and felt it had great value and relevance to the site members. If you've ever been Burglarized you will know that it doesn't take TEOTWAWKI to make you feel like the S has HTF.
And given the state of our economy I expect that burglaries will be on the rise as people become more desperate.
Maybe I should have posted this in the financial section? Mods?
Things of interest that I noted;
Burglars don't like:
Big Dogs
Visible Cameras
Doors and Windows easily seen by neighbors
Vehicles in driveways
TV or Radio on in the home - Indicated presence of someone being home.
Alarm system with an audible alert.
Bars on Windows and Doors.
Multiple locks on doors and windows - Time is critical, they don't want to take too much time just to enter.
Burglars like:
Windows and Doors covered by bushes, trees or other objects.
Unlocked doors and windows.
Master Bedrooms - Most Burglars focus first on Master Bedrooms because most valuables are stored or hidden there.
Mail piling up in mailbox or newspapers on porch.
Big fences or lots of cover.
I figure if you follow the advice given in the article you lower your chances of being Burglarized by about 90%.
Hope this helps.
