Varmint Grenades?

What cartridge are you going to be loading them into? That will help you get a better answer.

To me, it looks like they are very light-for-caliber. When hunting varmint, that is a good thing. Those high velocity, low momentum rounds have similar kinetic energy to normal rounds. They are able to dump large amounts of energy into the animal more quickly, however.

To make that idea comprehensible, try to picture a chevy suburban and a chevy Tahoe driving toward a body of water with the same amount of kinetic energy. To achieve this, the Tahoe has to go faster than the suburban, because it has less mass. Lets exaggerate that idea some more and say the Tahoe weighs far less than the suburban. The Tahoe is going 70mph toward the water. In order to have the same amount of kinetic energy as the Tahoe, lets say the suburban is going 5 miles per hour.

Which one will make a bigger splash? The Tahoe, because it will initially displace water very quickly compared to the suburban.

Which one will go through water the farthest before stopping? The suburban will, because it has more momentum when traveling at the velocity required to achieve the same amount of kinetic energy as the Tahoe. It has more mass, which means it has more momentum whenever it has the same amount of kinetic energy as a less-massive object.

On varmint, penetration is not the challenge. The challenge is maximizing the amount of trauma that the projectile causes to the target. The perfect varmint bullet will expand immediately, make the biggest "splash" in the critter's organs, pass through the animal, and fall on the ground 20 feet after the exit.

If overpenetration is a big concern with your selection of home-defense rounds, then I would say yes. It might be optimal because the round has little momentum and high deformation. It will incapacitate a human threat at close range. Might not even come out of the bad guy's back.
