Nickle plated colt .44

It will likely never shoot good again if it ever did for several reasons. The pitting in the bore will foul instantly at the first shot - the pits will ruin that first ball too. Very hard to fix.

If it was a Remington copy I would consider fixing it - much stronger design and shoots better too.

Parts need to be fitted for nickel plating prior to plating. I would bet even your cleaned up rusty stuff will still need properly fitted to work correctly. The old nickel plating was applied over a copper flashing layer. I think you can get a kit to electroplate the layers on.
