Santa Claus is mostly an American thing. In Germany, he's called Saint Nicholas. In England, it's Father Christmas. In Scandinavian countries, it's Kris Kringle.
Instead of hanging socks on the fireplace, in other countries the children set out their shoes.
In Poland, when they have the family Christmas dinner, the custom is to set an extra empty chair and table setting for an unexpected guest.
It also seems that Christmas trees are not common in other countries.
I've often wondered what they do for Christmas in Russia? The Balkans? Eastern European countries?
