Here's Hoping the Forum Will Survive

In a time when the average survivalist was somewhat secretive about what they believed in and what they were doing on a personal note, Survival Board came along, and it was like a cooling breeze that stifled the heat of an insufferable heat wave. I can remember reading about the advice coming from icons like the late great Mel Tappan, Ragnar Benson and so many more who elaborated on our pressing and immediate need to be prepared for something terrible coming down the road as many of us listened to the dire warnings. Years ago it was nothing like it is to=day and much of that credit can be laid on Survival Boards.

I saw it early on and when the urge to talk about it with friends surfaced and we as survivalists were scoffed at, vilified, and finally relegated to the garbage heap of silliness or downright insane for our beliefs. Those of us involved in this new thinking of being prepared for whatever came down the pike was slowly announced by enough of us eventually and began to take on a new persona, and we began to make sense to many people who at one time scoffed at us. Many of us wrote articles, books, and a new industry began to spring up catering to those of us who believed we were doing the right things. Many of us from that era are still around, and many of us still believe what we do is the correct thing to do. In some circles, we began to be accepted and understood that much of what we spouted held truth.

One day Survival Boards came along and a great deal of us jumped onboard to ride the train of a mindset to prepare ourselves for survival. We were finally out in the open about our ideals and goals. We were not as criticized as were once were by the general public and we were able to come together in a common place to discuss our plans, seek advice and to get encouragement from like-minded people. Today I see this unraveling, but the concept is still a valid one and a very important ideal that has been damaged by the changes that will occur to this forum. This was the place to come and not only share our ideals and thoughts, but it was a place to form friendships that were in some cases, long-lasting.

I hope this place will endure. It has been a place where so many have been helped and where careers have been launched. It has been a place of learning and a communal gathering point where we could all learn from some incredibly smart people and where we have been allowed pretty much-unencumbered sharing.
