Can we protect cars/trucks from EMP?

I've been reading about how many of you want an older car or truck with simple electronics, so it won't be very vulnerable to the electromagnetic pulse that accompnies a nuclear explosion.

I wonder if it is very difficult to protect a newer vehicle from EMP? I know our military has many planes and ships with sophisticated electronics, but that these are 'hardened' in some way to withstand EMP.

Does anyone know, what needs to be done to protect a typical modern car? Perhaps it's as simple as storing it in a metal garage. Or maybe covering it with a tarp with metal sewn into it?

OR maybe it's not so simple. I'm sure our military spends a fortune on this protection. But there's often an easier way to get the same result, or close to it.
