Clearances of wood/gas stove from an exterior door?

I've tried searching for this info online and have not come up with a clear answer. We are slowly remodeling our basement and would like to get a gas stove (looks like a wood stove) down there, so I'm thinking about layout and options. The basement has a walkout door to the backyard.

My original thought was to put it in a corner that was very near the area that will have some seating, but unfortunately, the exhaust hardware would be on the FRONT of the house. We could do some landscaping to hide the exhaust, but exiting the front is not ideal.

A friend was here this weekend and suggested putting any such heater near the walkout door to more easily exhaust it to the back of the house (albeit, under our deck), but that would put the heater 12-24" from the door. I'm trying to figure out if there is a code that dictates the clearance from a door like that.
