Russian social media and gun control

I’ve been wondering about this for a little while now, especially with the absolute explosion of social media attention on gun control, and social media pressure on retailers to adopt some sort of changes to their gun sales.

Funny thing about that is that its been pretty well established by now that Russia has been using social media to drive dissension on both sides of the aisle, with the goal primarily of fomenting partisanship in the US and preventing an effective and unified focus on any issues. It would not suprise me in the slightest if they were fueling a lot of the debate on gun control, and trying to build as much pressure and attention on it as possible. The reason for this is twofold.

First, it fits with the primary motivation of fueling partisanship and dissent in the US populace and in Washington DC. Second, because you guys like to say certain people are playing multidimensional chess, but the Russians almost do that out of compulsion. If they can push their primary goal of stoking anger in the US, with a potential side benefit of decreasing the overall firepower available to the population, they would do it. Not necessarily because Red Dawn is coming anytime soon, but because it fits in the framework of reducing our effective strength and defense in depth, at the cost of no more than a few professional trolls salaries.

Worth looking into, perhaps.
