Smartphone to Smartphone Wi-Fi Mesh

Has anyone tested a smartphone to smartphone setup with does not require towers or the internet? After the mesh and smartphone setup is complete these walkie-talkie apps could be easy to us. They would have GPS locators. Just call for help with the emergency call button and your team will be alerted and you will be located. They could be much more private than ham, FRS, GMRS, Marine, type radios.

I'm really ****ed that it looks like the cell phone industry forces us onto their networks. Even the long range WiFi (with a Zello app) that I've found needs to be connected to the internet to work.

GoTenna is text. Gotoky is voice but a couple months before reaching the market. Until they do I don't know the features and specs. It appears the sprinkling the Gotoky's around is the only thing that inhibits the operational range. These would have to be solar powered, so you could leave them up in the trees.

The Serval Project has given-up on phone to phone comms. And they appear to still be "bread-boarding" a mesh solution.

5G may work phone to phone, we'll see. The powers that be don't make any money off this so they will probably figure out a way to stop that.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
