Getting photos off of iphone to PC

A few months ago, my pc stopped recognizing my iphone. How in the heck do I get my photos transferred to my pc? I've searched, I've watched numerous Youtubes.. none of them has worked. The only thing I thought of, but haven't tried yet it pushing my photos to my icloud and then accessing that via my pc. Not sure if that will work or not though. Not sure I understand the cloud set up.

Does anybody have a fix or a suitable workaround?
