"Airweight" .38 Special Revolvers

I have found light alloy frame .38 Special revolvers used with "standard" pressure (NOT +P) loads useful as a light backpacking or "Kit Gun" as an alternative to a .22 LR or similar small caliber.

The 6-shot Colt Agent and Cobra revolvers with 3" or 4" barrel weigh about a little over a pound.

The 5-shot S&W Model 37 J-frame with 3" barrel and square butt weighs a pound.

The 6-shot S&W K-frame "Aircrewman" or pre-Model 12 with 2-inch barrel, round butt and its original aluminum cylinder weighs 15 ozs., which is the same as a 5-shot S&W Model 37 J-frame with 2-inch barrel and round butt with Tyler T-Grip.

My "airweight" guns never see +P loads, so I carry only factory 148-grain HBWC wadcutter loads and Speer shotshells for them.

Heavier bullet, lots of frontal area, BIG hole, accurate, mild shooting.
Works for me.
