Our home is a 16x80 manufactured home with a stick built addition. Recently, due to a tree incident, we had the house re-roofed and stepped up to a lifetime metal roof with energy star coating over the original shingles.
The job was finished just before summer and we had some rather high ac bills all summer.
I'm curious if it is a vent issue. The original roof system was just vented through 2 static square vents... one on each end of the house. There is no overhang so no real air intakes to the attic... so the vents were mainly just to let hot air out.
When they re-roofed the house, they removed those vents to get rid of potential leak points and went with a full length ridge vent instead.
Since I have no way to get air into the attic space now.. I'm curious about adding a powered vent system down low but instead of pulling air out like a traditional vent would do.. I want to push air into the space instead.. forcing hot air up and out of the ridge.
Would this work? Is it even needed or is just the open ridge ok?
I'm also planning on cutting the roof open from the attic of the addition and adding a good bit of insulation.. but want to make sure I wont be causing issues.
Help with attic venting?
