What are you going to be using the optic for? If you are using it for hunting a traditional scope would be good, but if you are using it for home defense, truck gun, etc. a red dot is a much better choice. I've never spent more than $100 (maybe $110) on a red dot & all but one has worked very well for me. The one that didn't work it wasn't the internal parts that were the problem, it was the clamp attached to the scope, the metal got a small crack after tightening it down, I went ahead & fired a few rounds to see what would happen. The crack started getting bigger & loosened itself a bit. I don't remember what brand it was, it was an off brand one I got off Amazon. I have had good luck with Leapers/UTG, some people don't like them, some just because they aren't a $300 optic though so take it FWIW.
