Rifle "pistols" for wilderness backpacking/camping?

Does anyone carry something similar to an AR pistol or a Draco pistol with them when hiking or backpacking out in the wilderness? I'm not talking about a day hike on your local tourist trail.

I've been thinking about getting myself a "pistol" length rifle for something lightweight and compact but still packing a rifle punch with me. I'm looking at the PTR-51P PDW but for the sake of general discussion it could be any rifle in "pistol" configuration.

I think having an actual rifle rifle would be better if I had to use it but I'd rather have something smaller and lighter to carry around but still pack that same punch at close range as what the rifle would do in a rifle configuration.

Anyone got an opinion on this?
