learn alternative Swedish torch, Siberian fire lay

The swede is fine for a quick boil and for easily igniting the Siberian. For the latter, you dont neee big logs. 4" OD logs will suffice, 6 ft long or so, but longer, larger logs burn far longer and you need less of them. If you have to do so, you can build a "wall" of smaller OD logs, stacked between 2 stakes, rocks, etc, and put dirt, rocks, even snow as protection for the log, from the fire. You want the fire to be in the protruding ends of the Siberian's logs.

You can split or whittle off the wet bark and on one side the wet wood of four of the 4"OD, 10" long logs for the alternative Swede. Split another one and use the center quarters to make shavings and feather sticks. Stuff those materials in the center of the 4 logs, bundling them with wire, cordage, vines, bark strips, roots, etc. Light the bottom of the Swede, then set it up on a couple of small logs, rocks, etc, so that air can get to the bottom of it.
