California AB5 has many dems ****ed off

California essentially banned independent contractors through AB5 by making it so that a worker that does the same business as their employer must be hired as an employee.

This was specifically targeted at uber/lyft and the gig economy, but impacts many types of employees. The law carves out lots of special interests (musicians, actors, doctors etc) but many jobs are caught up in it.

There is a stay on the enforcement but it ends soon. Uber and lyft claim they will pull out of california.

but this is impacting all kinds of jobs, not just gig economy jobs and *many* dems are ****ed off.

NJ wanted to pass the same kind of law and biden/harris support it and are trying to pass a nationwide equivalent.
