Most survivalists aren't

I've been interested in survival since the 1980s and a member here since 2009. I've been a member of survival meet-up groups for about 2 years now trying to link up with other survivalists to do some training. For two years now I’ve been pumped, actively looking to link up with good people and train. I started my own meet-up group about 6 months ago and it's tanking. Despite trying to weed out undesirables, I have few members, and many fall into the below categories.

I've come to the conclusion that most of the members of survival groups are there simply for entertainment value. They may have a collection of survival gear and food, but their commitment level, skills and knowledge are low. If you offer a pot luck dinner where you sit around and talk about EMP, or a survival card game where you fantasize about the apocalypse, you'll get a blowout attendance. Any training that takes effort and is uncomfortable is sparsely attended.

Of the remaining dedicated survivalists who show up to serious training, some are totally over the top and don't want to train or talk about any survival situation other than the apocalypse. I’m talking about unbalanced personalities to the extent that they are creepy. Noting against worst case scenario training and preparation, but it shouldn't be at the expense of preparation for more likely disasters.

Many are religious zealots. Nothing against religion, but if you can’t engage in any activity without dragging God into it, you fall into the unbalanced category. I have to eat and sleep every day, but I manage to function daily without bringing it up constantly LOL. Others are physically incapable of much or in a living situation that precludes any serious survival effort.

I’ve come to believe that survivalists who are level headed, serious people are not interested in training with the others simply because they already figured out what I'm talking about here. I'm about to quit trying out of frustration. I'm pretty sure the same stats probably hold true for this board. It's incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I really thought more level headed folks would interested in meeting up, hanging with like-minded people and doing some good survival training. They aren’t. I feel very alone.
