Coffee Can Rocket Stove

I'd been wanting to make a rocket stove for cooking and used one of the youtube tutorials as a guide. I wanted to use some of the things I have around the house, so I built one from a coffee can and two Bush's baked beans cans. I did a couple of test runs with it to make sure it worked and then used it in the field as my main cooking platform for AmRRON's T-Rex 2016 exercise.

I learned a few things along the way.

  • Gravel is great to store and maintain the heat generated by the burn chamber
  • Three minutes of gathering twigs and dead bark provided more fuel than was needed to cook my food and for my buddy to cook his food
  • It produces VERY little smoke
  • The gravel makes the stove stay hot for quite awhile after you are done cooking

All in all, I am quite happy with it and it is part of my EDC gear in my truck.
