Mylar for food storage in AU/NZ

Hi all, new poster on the forum.

I've done a search on this forum, and I know the question has been asked several years ago but doesn't seem to have been dealt with since. The previous thread is here: http://ift.tt/1r8nXGK

As noted previously, the cost of sourcing mylar bags in Australia isn't the cheapest. The storage buckets I'm using are Maxi Pails from Bunnings.

My plan at the moment is to throw in bags of rice or pasta, a decent amount of oxygen absorbers based on the USA Emergency Supply website, and seal the lid as best as possible using duct tape.

Ideally I'd like the lifespan of the product inside (rice, dried pasta) to be in the 15-20 year range. I know mylar is the gold standard in storage, but it seems quite expensive to come by.

Opinions/thoughts?
