For reasons I don't really want to explain, I have recently decided to get very serious about my long-term food storage. My goal is to provide enough food for my immediate family of 4 plus my wife's sisters plus their husbands and children, and my wife's parents, and my wife's uncle and aunt that live next door. That's 15 people. I want to provide enough for 9 months, which should get us through to an early harvest in a worst case scenario. I did some preliminary number crunching (and I'm sure I made some mistakes) but 1 dry lb of rice/bean mixture alone per person, for 275 days, is 15x275 = 4125 or about 2 tons.
2 tons.
Part of me is questioning whether this is even possible for me to accomplish.
If a 5 gallon bucket can hold 35lbs of rice/bean mixture, that means I need ~118 5 gallon buckets.
Am I trying to bite off more than I can chew here?
