Firesteels

I wrote in this forum earlier this year about corrosion in my firesteels that I carry in my holiday/travel bag.

I had experienced the sticks corroding in a damp atmosphere , and at last have got some clear nail varnish that my wife had.

I have now painted all 3 of my sticks with this polish , in the hope that I dont get any more corrosion or pitting.

Has anyone else here tried this idea to stop their sticks degrading to grey powder?

Any other quick remedies would be appreciated.
