Opinions on what to do w/my new double barrel 12ga.

Hey guys, I've been kicking around a few ideas regarding my latest purchase and wanted to know what you guys think. I recently picked up a Stevens 311 model H. SxS 12 gauge. I've always wanted a SxS, not sure why, maybe just for the nostalgia as by grandfather always hunted with a 16 gauge SxS I believe it was an Ithica?

I didn't pay a lot for it ($220). It's got a 32" cylinder bore(s) barrel. I already have a single shot 20ga I keep for varmint duty and once every year or so I bring it rabbit hunting. I don't really need another shotgun for hunting. I sold my Mossberg 500 a while ago after I quit hog hunting but I suppose if I have get to go again ill bring it along.

I was thinking about cutting it down to about a 20" barrel and using it as a trunk gun. I've been wanting a "long gun" for trunk duty for a while now and I've been pursuing a Kel-Tec Sub 2k for a while but the 5 LGS's nearby have yet to turn one up and everyone around here wants $150-$200 over MSRP and I refuse to pay that. I know a double barrel 12ga is not necessarily the best, most "tacticool" option out there but I feel that the versatility of a 12 ga Especially coupled with the ability to load say 00 Buck in one tube and a slug in the other and fire either one (or both) when the need arises is a valuable asset given my other armaments: compact 9mm EDC and Full size 9mm w/extended mags in my GHB. It won't be a "live off the land" gun as I'd just use it to ensure a safe journey home as a defensive armament so I'd probably only bring a dozen or so 00 Buck, dozen or so slugs, maybe a flare or two (someone told me they make 12gauge flares, is this true?). If I go this route I'll obviously spend a few hours every week training and practicing reloads and especially reloads while moving and keeping my head up. I'd cut it down for weight and easier handling, duracoat the metal, add a recoil pad, probably throw a shell carrier on the stock, and fit a sling to it. I figure ill have just a hair over 3 Ben's into it including gun, accessories and ammo, hard to beat that...

Thoughts?
