I typically wear whatever I get for free; free company promo shirts, 5k running shirts, some synthetic triathlon shirts, and a few nike dryfit workout shirts I've paid for, and this works pretty well for summer months. I haven't bought any shirts in quite some time, about 5 or 6 years... so it's about time to get a few new items.
For winter, I take those shirts, add a fleece, a north face thermal layer, a non-water/wind proof north face outer coat (kinda worthless), and a 3/4" wool work coat over top (free). It's not pretty, and it barely works for subzero temps. I'm doing something wrong.
I've been looking up the layering concept, because I typically freeze to death in winter. So wicking base layer, probably try wool. An insulating middle layer, fleece/thinsulate. And a weather protecting outer layer, goretex/windbreaker.
Can anyone suggest some good wool base layers? insulating layers? outer layers? What do you use?
