Argon and Nitrogen Flush Products

Preserving food with gas.

Most hard foods are best preserved in mylar bags with O2 absorbers. Then there is white sugar, a desiccant packet is recommended, but not required. (Do not use O2 absorbers with white sugar).

Other solutions are needed for stuff such as opened Wine bottles to Olive Oil and Latex Paint. Unlike grain and elbow noodles, there will not be any crevasses to trap O2 during a flush. A simple blanket of argon will protect your product from oxidation. Argon is 38% denser than air and will form a protective layer. If any Air and O2 does remain, it will float to the top of the container.

The Bloxygen product is made specifically for paint and varnishes. The contents are not listed on the can, but the MSDS sheet lists it as Argon. While it is maybe 10-15% cheaper, it cannot be considered safe for food products. However, if you already have some of the food grade canned Argon you could use a bit to protect your paint.

Argon is better at protecting food than Nitrogen. For extending the shelf live of packaged goods, the food industry is moving away from Nitrogen flush and toward Argon gas. [ Packaging with argon helps keep food fresh ]

I am only seeing these products online. Maybe if someone see these in retail stores, you can post your finds.
