H&R Pardner, any recent experience?

I was looking at getting my wife a 12 gauge for her birthday, and wanted to know if the Pardner is a good starter shotgun?

Most of the reviews I've seen are 5-7 years old, and I remember they used to have some issues. On another thread somewhere on here several people said that those issues had been resolved.

Just curious if they are worth looking at, and where to find modifications, mostly a tube extension.
