I ran across this cryptocurrency proto-white paper today and found this kind of interesting. This was authored by the NSA and to my shock was published all the way back on June 18th 1996. As you can see, this is mirrored at MIT so I think we can agree this is probably legitimate. Anyway, enjoy, if this is your kind of thing.

I think I'll see if I can dig up some of the references found in this article.
