It is remarkable to me that the one who almost single-handedly brought the Christian faith to Ireland and became the patron saint of the nation, would hold such a view of himself, especially in the light of modern pop-teaching that wants to show us how special and superior we are.
It seems the closer we get to God the more sensitive we become to our own sinfulness failures and the pride of youth fades. God seems like a magnifying glass of our own life, the closer we get to Him the more things become focused and the things that once seemed small become large.
