RATS - rental house we are selling

My renter is finally out, thank god. The orkin guy she hired showed me some pics while she was there and it was beyond disgusting. She apparently canceled her trash service months before and was storing it in the garage. Well, she said they may have a mouse or 2 around and that's why she called orkin. He said, nope...those are rats.

Question - what are some things you have tried beyond the standard glue traps and trap spring board? Obviously we are having the siding redone where there is rot and entry points. Any straglers...how can we make sure they are finally gone? Things are definitely getting better, still seeing obvious signs (glue boards being moved) of activity, but the rats are now turning cannibalistic (no more food in the house) and when one gets stuck on a glue board, the others are eating it. GROSS!
