Is anyone still using Packet Radio??

The Yaesu RT5100 I just picked up from my Dad has a data in/out plug on the back of the radio and from what I can tell, that's for packet radio.

Apparently there are a few apps out there for tablets that will work with packet radio as well.

I'm thinking this would be a pretty decent way to have secure transmissions between you and others in your group. Secure in that pretty much not a lot of people are still using Packet Radio these days.

The technology is still there ad they appear to work with repeaters or direct between users.

From what I've read up on, you can even send pictures back and forth.

Any thoughts?
