Mini Storage Bug Out/In Location...

This might be a helpful for people who live in an urban environment and need a place nearby where they can escape from the city. Ground zero can be a tough place to bug in. And bugging out can be a difficult plan B.

I obviously don't know everyones exact situation, but there's probably a mini storage near your home or apartment. Rent a 10' x 10' unit. And if money is a factor, maybe split it with a friend you trust. These places tend to be a little isolated and they're not really a target, most people assume they're full of furniture, clothes, grandmas keepsakes and other stuff nobody really wants. In my area, these go for around $100 a month. Depending on some options.

Most people have the usual junk in storage. BUT... in YOUR unit, bolt down a locking tool box to the floor and store some guns & ammo. Add shelving in the unit and store food, water, clothes, cook stove, med supplies, a cot to sleep on, whatever you think you might need. If you store everything you need, you only have to get your person there, but you still have the option of bringing things from home. If you have the opportunity. These mini storage facilities usually have water faucets somewhere on the property, so it would be a good idea to have an industrial water key in your preps. Also have extension cords, there's a chance the power could still be on. You just have to think it all the way through. That's where I hope others chime in.

These mini storages are everywhere, this allows many locations to choose from. And most all these places are fenced, which provides a little more security. And if you know several like minded people, encourage them to rent some units of their own. Then you have help to secure the location, if it comes to that.

You can pick up shelving and camping supplies at garage sales. I've bought over a dozen propane tanks for $5 to $10 each. Then I swap them out at Walmart for full ones. You can store blankets and clothes in plastic tubs. You can stack tubs to the ceiling. The only consideration would be whether to spend a little more for a climate controlled unit. Depending on where you live and what you put in the storage unit, a climate controlled unit might be necessary and worth the additional cost.

These units are typically very secure, if you invest in a quality lock. But OPSEC is important. Be careful who you tell. You're depending more on the "hide in plain sight" concept, than you are sophisticated security. Although, these places usually have security fences and electronic combination gates. Also security cameras and sometimes a manager that lives on site.

Anyway, it's just a thought.
