Part Sourcing Resources

So i thought it might be helpfull for us handymen and DIYers to have a thread dedicated to part sourcing.

I dont know about you fellas but sometimes when working on a project, finding that right part can be frustrating and time consuming. A bearing, seal, micro switch maybe an odd piece of hardware.

Im finishing up restoring a 1945 GE refrigerator and ran into trouble finding replacment seals that were correct. I didnt want to use just random weatherstripping or seals, i wanted to keep it as close to original as possible. The seal gap for the door was much tighter than modern fridges so retrofitting commonly available seals was a no-go. I found the correct ones from and antique appliance supplier but they were 150 bucks... NO THANKS!

Finally i found a parts supplier that had the correct type of seals for a reasonable price. The supplier is Mcmaster Carr. After browsing their site i found they supply a huge amount of parts that can be usefull in projects. They provide detailed info and dimensions on every one, making it easy to find the right part.

So my contribution to the thread is Mcmaster Carr. Post up where you source parts or where you found that obsolete piece needed for your project.

If we get a good list maybe we can get it stickied so DIYers have an easier time finding what they need.
