I hate to say it, but the US has given "terrorists" money since the Indian Wars, Reagan supporting dictators in Latin America, Iran/Contra, CIA lending support to Bin Laden, and up to the present day. Apparently we are a morally unhinged nation, and have no problem with terrorists, so long as they are "our" terrorists, strongmen, druglords, etc. We don't learn any lessons from "blowback" either. But then that's one of the key aspects of insanity, and possibly psychopathy that is necessary to rise the power ladder.
