The problem with collecting camping gear

As I write this post I am 50 years old and have been collecting various camping gear since the 1990s. Before the 1990s I was in high school and would take stuff like a pot from moms kitchen and a can of chili when I went camping.

Today, things are a little more difficult than asking mom which pot I could take. In the 1990s I started using GI canteen cups, then moved to stainless and eventually titanium cups.

Besides canteen cups, I moved from propane to blended fuel stoves. In all, I have around 5 stoves to pick from.

Then there are the tents. Which tent do I bring, and how much room will I need?

Sleeping bags will be determined by temps. I have everything from hot weather to a -20 extreme cold GI surplus down bag.

Backpacks - medium ALICE, large ALICE, large MOLLE, medium MOLLE, Maxpedition.... or something else? I can walk into the gear room, close my eyes, point and chances are there will be a backpack where I point.

Here in Southeast Texas we have until the first sunday of January to bag a deer. Since I want to hunt on public hunting lands I decided to wait until December. A lot of the hunters have cleared out and hopefully the hunting pressure has eased.

Now it is a matter of picking my gear and head out to the Angelina river for a few days of camping and hunting. The only thing left to do is pick my gear and hope for good weather.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
