Building a soundproof box/shed for generator?

i think it would be pretty easy to make a box with some foam lining to put over a portable generator, but how much space between generator and walls of the box should be used?

Also would it be ok to have a generator running inside a lawn shed like the ones you buy at lowes that you put lawnmowers and stuff in?
