Practical applications for drum magazines?

Let me start off by saying I believe ammunition capacity is a big criteria in my firearm choices, and I do not believe that magazine restrictions are appropriate or accomplish anything that gun grabbers intend them to.

Which brings me to my question, other than having fun at the range or the joy of burning off 60 rounds at a quick clip for grins and giggles, are there any practical applications in shed for drum magazines for a battle rifle?

When I hve used them they tend to make the gun heavy, unwieldy, and more difficult to manage. I understand the pluses of not having to reload as often, but it doesn't seem to me to be worth the trade-off to me at least.

Other than a storage solution, or recreational fun, what practical benefits do you see in having a few of these around in a SHTF situation?
