So for the past couple of months I have had this voice in the back of my head telling me to up my preps and get ready for the **** storm, along with this strange feeling that something isn't right. This is kind of weird for me because I don't usually have these feelings. Am I the only one or is anyone else getting this weird feeling?
Well, first of all, it usually pays to listen to your own instincts. But you're straying off that path, are you not, by asking others if they are getting strange feelings? I wouldn't be searching for corroboration, if I were you. Not for this sort of thing. Plus, oftentimes when you "get that feeling", it's about something other than what we expected.
One more thing. You write, "this strange feeling that something isn't right". Truth is, the strange feeling I get is that something IS right. That is, my instincts tell me we're headed for chaos and worse, and that I'm right about that. There's no question that "something isn't right". Hell, there's so much that's not right it'd be tough to list it all.
What shirts do you all keep in your BOB for summer and fall? What brand and types of material do you go with?
I was thinking:
Long sleeve crew neck t-shirt
Long sleeve button up shirt
T-shirt
I live in a state that's 90-100 in the summer and cold and snowy in the winter. Normally I'd lean towards cotton for summer, but they wouldn't be great in the winter. I don't mind taking a few extra shirts specific for warmer weather, but if some material would work in both that would be great.
My wife and I are finally in a position to purchase land for farming and homesteading. How much land is to much for a small family? We have a few options between 6acres and 18 acres that we are looking at all with some type of water on property either Creek, river or pond.
I just finished up my Aero Precision M5 (308 AR) build. I went with an ALG ACT and used the purple 4.5 lb hammer spring. Has anyone else used these with 308. I'm curious if they have had any light primer strikes. With the crappy late CO winter I haven't had an opportunity to get out to the range and try it out. The hammer strike sounds much lighter than mil-spec hammer strike. Curious what others' experiences might be with the purple spring, particularly with 308/7.62x51 primers.
Note: The story has some pretty graphic pics of what the hog did to his legs, so be forewarned.
For those that can't open the article with their device, Ill hit the high points.
Full grown 41 year old experienced hunter with law enforcement occupation out hunting along the Pearl River in TX after tree rats with a rifle chambered in 22mag.
Had already taken a few with his rifle before his hog encounter.
By his estimates......
A 140lbs boar jumped up from its spot and came right at him full tilt from about 8 feet away. He tried to back away from it and get his rifle to bear when he went down and the hog was on him..... after he tried to side step away from its path.
Shot it once at least and at contact distance. Hog eventually let him go and ran path.Damage was extensive to say the least, and boars can get a whole lot bigger than 140 lbs in Texas. In addition, they typically have an extremely bad dental program, so much less damage from one can still cause you lots of grief.
I actively hunt these things year around and know what one can do to a person if they get to one. Over several decades now. It would be less typing to list cartridges I haven't hunted them with.
No offense meant here, but 9mm, 40 snw, 38 spl, 45 auto, ain't enough gun either from my experience around these things. ( The only pistol cartridge I would actively hunt them with from the ground would be 357 magnum from a carbine preferably. 44 magnum would be the better choice)
Number crunches can crunch away. As far as I can tell, hogs don't care about numbers unless they are made out of something they can eat.....lol
22lr is near useless at changing a boars mind if he is hell bent on tearing you a new one. ( Killing them after one takes damage like this guy did just ain't good way to explain how 22lr is great for every critter hunting out there.)
The little girl killing a very big and for all we know very old sick and injured brown bear up north is not gonna cut the " good enough" mustard in the real world.
Others are gonna say 22lr will kill them fine.
I say baloney to either......
Some may underestimate their speed and their ability to be mean and nasty.......even after they have been shot.
I have had them charge after shooting a few of their buddies too.Dont know why he decided to get all upset after I shot a few of his lady friends, and didn't bother with dialog. Shot him in the head twice using my M14S ( 308) as he was coming right at me.
A good hog is a dead hog period.
Take enough gun to insure you come home the same way you left.
These things aren't worth a substantial medical bill over, or walking with a limp the rest of your life.
My minimum rifle cartridge would be 243 with a stout bullet in the 100gr range. 30 Carbine using a 110gr soft point. ( If hunting from elevated position.....other minimums would be possible, as feral pigs can't climb all too well
Bigger hogs are best served bigger medicine. 7.62x39mm via 123gr win soft points, or 32 win spl = from the ground.
Welcome from La Crosse, Wisconsin! I am a fellow firefighter. Which suburb are you from? I grew up in Glendale.
As far as getting started, start small. This can easily overwhelm you. The things to prioritize are food and water. Buy a little extra every time you shop. Also, it is good to get some water filters in addition to stockpiling some water. Those can help for common emergencies like boil advisories. After you get a few weeks of food, focus on defense, medical supplies, and any other miscellaneous stuff you may need. Another thing to get is books. Knowledge is power in this case. Books on edible and medicinal plants, a wilderness survival (SAS Pocket Survival Guide), bushcraft knowledge (YouTube is a good source for this). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. There is also a lot of good information here, but it is good to have hard copies.
So my Garden is doing great so far. I noticed these bugs on the cucumber plants at first. Now they have spread to just about every plant in the garden except for the corn. I thought I was told a long time ago that they are cucumber bugs but now that they have spread to everything I'm not sure what they are and the Viper dust that I put on the plants have not seemed to do anything to kill them. They have multiplied by the hundreds and I really want them gone. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
edit-
they are about 1/4" long and they fly. and they apparently hang out on the bottom side of the leaf on each plant.
Gonna give earth buckets a try this year to grow some vegetables. I'd rather not spend any time or effort mixing up my own soil.
I bought some Miracle gro vegetable garden soil mix the other day, but just noticed it says not for container growing, so I took it back.
Is there an already mixed garden soil sold that will work for growing vegetables in containers? I really don't care about the cost, I'll only be planting a few buckets. Thanks.
There is a trolling message board site where they give instructions on how to create a proxy account so they can mask their IP address. Alot of these members brag about how they create sock puppets and come back to this site. At least one of them was a prior SB moderator. She even brags about how she has more than 10 sock puppet accounts.
Also, I've seen several posts from the Darkside copied to that site, by people with sock puppet accounts. I thought the Darkside was not supposed to be copied to other sites or searchable.
Is there a way that you can temporarily suspend all accounts that have proxies, until the person sends back an email with an actual true IP address? This would make SB a much better board and would clean up the mess with the sock puppets and the people with defective characters who can't abide by the Moderator's rules.
As I grew up, I found myself in a family that has a literary and educated background. There were three family relics, among others , which devolved upon me/ my generation, through centuries and manifest our educated family background . One is a copy of Quran , magnificently hand written by my great grand father( six degrees / generations high above me ) , Secondly , a document written on a piece of animal skin, showing the sale of an area of land by my great grand father ( seven degrees/ generations high above me). That document is written in Persian and is jotted down in persuasion of a Quranic injunction to write down every deal or transaction one makes. The area mentioned in the document presently falls in Balochistan and third relic is the ring which I wear since 2003. It bears the name of my same grandfather, in mirror image, who had the honour of writing a copy of Quraan . It is a seal or stamp which my grandfather used to affix on the “Fatwa” or “Decree” he used to issue in capacity of a Mufti . Please note that the area, to which my forefathers belonged to, or even the area I live in today, is unfortunately considered one of those having a very less literacy rate. One could imagine that even in those areas, which are still ravaged by illiteracy, my great grandfathers were educated enough to write Quraan , document their transactions and issue decrees centuries ago
The reason of telling you about my family background is just to let you friends know that being a member of an an educated family , I am well versed with the literature of, Persian , Sindhi , Balochi, , Urdu ,Punjabi , Pashto, Arabic Hindi etc , either by reading those languages directly or through translations and now through modern education, I am well versed with the literature of west also . It is a very strange phenomenon that literature of nearly all those languages is teemed with the references of weapons of the era before the machines rose to prominence that is crudely called as Agricultural or feudal era. If you ask me , I could quote hundreds of verses from Arabic , Persian , ,sensikrat (the root language or the mother language of Indo- Aryan languages and German language) hindi , balochi , Punjabi , sindhi , sraiki , Urdu languages, in which the swords , arrows , bows , daggers , spears etc etc are mentioned as the references to the beauty of beloved or in any other related matter. In the classic literature of these languages, a lover is described to have felt that a pair of arrows has pierced through his heart when his beloved raises her eyes and looks at him. At some moments, a poet describes the curt behavior of his beloved as deadly as direct blow a spear dipped in venom. For poets and lovers , the moments passed in separation from the beloved are passing over them as the sharp edge of sword passes over the throat of one who is being slaughtered . At the moments the curved eye brows of beloved are compared to tight bows that help fire a volley of arrows of the deadly sights from the eyes of beloved. And interestingly, in the eastern languages, these references are still used in their poetry . I have never heard or red and poetic piece where the sight of beloved is compared to the a 50 BMG bullet fired from a Barret sniper rifle ,or the wink of an eye from the loved one is compared to a 9mm round . or I have never hared any song in which it is said the un- courteous behavior of beloved has devastated the heart of lover as a rocket propelled grenade or a javelin missile devastates a tank or APC . There are lots of phrases like “stabbing in back” but I am yet to hear a proverb like “firing in the back (or front)”. There are some notes though, in western poetry, about the present day weapons, but those very few poetic works are yet to be acclaimed by the literary critics as the permanent and classical parts of literatures of the respective languages
It is even a strange phenomenon that on one hand , the modern weapons based on firearm principles, have been very actively shaping the geopolitical scenario of the the world since centuries , they are considered not worthy of mentioning by the writers and poets in their poetic works and lyrics but there is one exception to it too. There is a modern weapon that has been successful in making its place in the creation of poets and writers; even you can found that weapon in the building of United Nations, proudly making its presence felt by being embossed on the national flag of a sovereign, independent country
Yes, you got it .the modern weapon that has made its way in the folk lore and literature of many languages is legendary KALASHNIKOV aka the AK47
Kalashnikov is the only weapon that has been able to have such profound impact not only on the geographical and political conflicts but the its legendary ruggedness and reliability has compelled the writers to mention it in their creations. This weapon is sung in folk lore of Vietnamese, Palestinian, , Russian , Afghan, pushto , Persian, balochi Sindhi, darri, tamil, and other countless languages and many other African literatures. . In my opinion , Kalashnikov is the only weapon of modern times , which , like the classic “sword” , has many names , probably different name in in every region .It is called Kalashnikov , Kelashan , Kelash , Thopak , Mashine ( local word for MACHINE),geepak etc etc This is also a fact , however , that this weapon is termed to be having evil features in the western world and is often looked down upon . The debate of AK VS AR is a never ending debate and social media like face book and you tube and gun forums around the world are overwhelmingly filled with discussion threads and videos favoring or disfavoring the respective views . But it doesn’t seem to be reaching to any ultimate conclusion any sooner.
I do not intend to fan the flames of this never ending debate, but I shall exercise my democratic right of freedom of expression being an AK lover , and shall say that I agree with a spaznatz members assertion that AK is a true friend , a mother and a beloved at the same time . It never betrays them in battle as a true friend, its presence and solid feels comforts them as a child is comforted by the soothing feel and the touch of its mother and these qualities of this weapon creates a bond of a love between the soldier and his AK and AK becomes a beloved.
An AR is also a good friend, but a good urban girl friend, decorated with modern makeup, thin, slim, and faithful to her limits but her limits are too narrow and short in comparison to an AK.
If I am asked to try to visualize both weapons / platforms with the help of the picture of my choice available on the internet, my visualization may be something like this
The AK platform
The AR platform
I don’t have a vast experience with AR platform, but once I saw a recruit performing a remarkable maneuver. He had a wall to climb on. He un tied the sling of his AK from stock, kept his AK with its muzzle up with the wall , stepped on the magazine of his AK , jumped a bit , hold the edge of wall with his hand and stabilized himself , climbed the wall and pulled the AK up with the sling he tied in his belt hook. I don’t know if anyone could step upon the magazine of an AR to climb a wall. Apart from this, the links pasted below may speak louder than my words https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqL0dtIeTT8 http://ift.tt/1TbsH58
Hello everyone. So I ordered a fairly large order of Canned Salmon/Chicken/ and Beef from Walmart via online. It was delivered to my house and about 85% of my order (all canned food) was badly dented.. From what I hear you shouldn't eat dented canned foods.
What should I do? Call the number on the cans? call walmart?
What's my best option.
EDIT : My reason for purchasing the food was for storage, I didn't plan on eating them casually, they were to be put away for an emergency situation. So I don't really want to eat them.
Was replacing the handguards with some I bought a few months back. Didn't think I put nearly enough force on it to cause it, but what do you know, sheared cleanly in two. Apparently replaceable, and if I need to use it before then, I can ducktape the handguard really well and it'll be fine.
Was just really surprised that I was able to break my AK like that. Something I've never done to an AR, I'll tell you that.
Curious if anyone here is reloading shotshells.
I've come up with a nice slug round that works pretty well. I was given some Lee slugs and cobbled together the ingredients that work very well. Assuming using spent hulls, you could reload these for what.. $0.20 a round and would cost $1.25 in the store.
Here's my recipe:
12 ga AA 2¾ inch hull
Lee 1 oz key slug
Win 209 primer
Win AA12 wad
Herco powder 1.6 grams
Stats on the results of newly implemented gun laws, past and present, would be something I'd like to see. I assume many people here wouldn't like the results because "liberal media" that I read makes it sound like gun control works, but there's always some study somewhere that shows crime went up after enacting a gun law, so you could just cite that and have fun nitpicking whatever you'd like to nitpick about the studies. I don't really research this stuff and I don't know a good way to find the studies, but if someone starts this off and it becomes too lopsided maybe I'll add something if I could.
As the title says...I am looking for recommendations on dashcams for my car or truck. My budget is around $100.
For all their other electronic equipment, none of the big companies (Sony, Canon, Panasonic etc) make a dashcam...how is this possible? It seems like they are missing out on a big market. Go Pros just don't fit the need.
Anyway, would like to know what hands-on experience you may have had with a specific brand and what you would recommend or stay away from. I know there are some truckers on here who use them, so definitely hope they chime in.
Brit here, so forgive my ignorance on the effects of NAFTA on Americans. Anyway, I've been following this presidential run quite closely, but one thing consistently rears its head amongst those discussing the candidates and discussing many other things related to trade, is NAFTA. From what I undersand, NAFTA basically made it easier to trade between various countries, allowing businesses to profit more by selling cross-border or moving their manufacturing abroad.
Whilst I clearly understand the implications of big business moving manufacturing abroad, job losses in the USA etc, isn't this exactly what Capitalism involves? Profit over principles?
Don't get me wrong here, I'm a die hard libertarian that firmly believes capitalism is the best functional system available right now, but what I don't understand is the partisan rhetoric against NAFTA and those who helped bring it into policy. Surely anything that helps free trade and business grow, is a good thing?
This is the big problem I currently see with the Chinese steel issue lately, US and EU steel industries are complaining that China is producing too much steel, too cheaply and want government to step in because it's 'unfair'. Its' farcical. Big business only likes free trade when it's in their own interest. The people only like free trade when it keeps them employed. God forbid capitalists actually... capitalising. Anyone able to help me understand this bizarre paradox? Or am I just missing something really obvious.
NAFTA was a trade agreement that allowed for US manufacturing jobs to travel to Canada and Mexico. The agreement basically was the start of the destruction of our economy. Companies started moving their manufacturing jobs where labor costs were lower. Follow that up with free trade with China, and our economy totally sucks. It is cheaper for most companies to make stuff in China and ship it here. Countries that pay high wages cannot have free trade with countries that pay slave wages. We can thank Bill Clinton for signing us up for that!
We don't have capitalism in the US. Our central bank (Federal Reserve) is privately owned (fascism). This bank determines interest rates for the country (centrally planned market-fascism) instead of letting the free market decide what rates should be. We have laws like Obamacare which essentially forces citizens to buy insurance from a private corporation under the barrel of the government's gun (fascism). I could go on and on citing crony capitalistic laws.
Believe it or not, most people have no idea as to what our Founding Fathers fought a war to escape. Our colonists were under a debt based monetary system issued by the Bank of England. Their wealth was being confiscated by a criminal banking racket as is happening with every country with a Rothschild owned central bank. The colonists were also extorted by a monopoly imposed by the East India Trading Company. They limited the things the colonists could buy and also had a trading monopoly over them so they could set their own prices. The final straw was when the Britisjh soldiers came to confiscate the colonists firearms. The US Declaration of Independence lists the grievances the colonists had. Some of them were out of Nazi Germany (colonists forceably removed from their homes (disappeared) and given mock trials). Being that you are British, I suggest you read it online. Also, you can read George Washington's Farewell Address which was the vision our country was supposed to follow.
We also were not supposed to have corporations in this country, or they were supposed to have charters that expired and the corporation was supposed to dissolve. We were not supposed to have a standing army. Stupid Amerikans did not listen to a darn thing they said. Our Founding Fathers have a lot of great quotes that describe how tyranny would come to the US. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, John Adams to name a few. Thomas Jefferson spoke out about the evils of banks and corporations, and the others were all correct as to how tyranny would come here. The website Brainy Quotes has a lot of their quotes, and it is easy to search the different people.
As for free trade, it is intended to destroy our economy. Back when our country was most prosperous, we had protectionist policies to protect American jobs. Weird how that works.
It's because of a kiddie porn case where they were using a proxy server. They attempted to get the warrant in the jurisdiction but by the time they got to the actual server, it was somewhere else and there was a suppression hearing on these grounds and it got suppressed.
I'm usually against expansion like this but what are you supposed to do? Get a warrant every time you break another proxy? I don't have the answer or even a valid opinion until I read and research more, but they did have a warrant to hack the website. It just ended up being elsewhere when they got to the end of the trail. Still within FBI jurisdiction but in another court circuit.
And now the pedophiles evidence is thrown out, even with a good warrant, because the investigation took them into another courts jurisdiction.
Maybe some of our IT can chime in. Would it have hindered the investigation to stop until they procured a new warrant? Would the operator of the website have know. Someone was trying to get in and had the ability to block it of they waited? Would they lose a window of opportunity and had to start all over? Legitimately asking because I don't know.

I live in Pennsylvania, right now. I shall be moving to the state of Kentucky, by the end of the year. Minimizing my life has started, and I hope to have the personal side of it finished by the time of my move.
I am a disabled...none combat.., female, United States Air Force veteran. Myself and a few close friends have started a "church" and finally (5 years since the first idea) we are able to make a sanctuary for Veterans and animals. I am currently making the plans to have a program, up and running by the start of the next year, to pair veterans that will benefit the help of a service dog. (The wait is approximately 2 years. More will be explained on my word press blog, once I get it up and running.)
In 2017, I will also start to build my first Tiny House. It will be the model for other Tiny Homes, and I expect improvements by others. These homes are being made to go completely off grid. Some, need to be able to accommodate those who are physically disabled, and for those who need to use a wheel chair, etc.
Because I intend for these homes to be off grid and or mobile or both, I am seeking a way to make them defensible. And that is what I need help/ideas with.
The small farm that this is all going to happen on will also need defensible, as will the house and out buildings, such as barns and work shops.
I know that this all sounds like a lot. But I will be reading the forums here, tomorrow, and will learn all I can.
Thank you! I am looking forward to meeting people and hope to make friends as well.

being into cooking, i am obsessed with the beauty of blades and have lived through improvised cooking of canned food for months when travelling through India.
having most of my family in military, i was exposed to things such as morse code machines, VHFs. navigation at a very young age...but hope to learn more here and advice on travelling gears.

Could someone point me to an article about the story I partially overheard on NBC TV news tonight about the police informing thousands of US citizens that terrorists published their personal information and have supposedly targeted them for death. It's not the first time I heard something on the TV news and couldn't find it on the website.
"Very good" can be a somewhat deceptive term if youre not familiar with the grading system. I know a lot of people seem to think it means "like new", which isnt always the case. Good-very good can be somewhat rough if youre picky.
The hand pick thing is also often confusing to some. Generally it means, the best of 5 or so right in front of the grader. They dont necessarily go looking for a "good" one.
Ive bought a number of things from SOG over the years, and most were about what I was expecting.
I am currently developing outdoor cooking gear. It will be multi-functional, but I need to know what functions it should have.
Do you guys have any suggestions?
And how would you like it; lightweight, small, stainless,...?
Thanks for helping me out!

If you don't know? That's okay! I'll gladly explain it! In science, biology specifically, there is a phenomenon known as symbiosis. This is when two organisms of different species coexist together, and each organism is mutually beneficial to the other. One provides something beneficial to the other organism which can't produce that thing on its own and vice versa, thus, a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship is formed. How does this relate to gardening? There is a fungus (relax, it's not bad or poisonous) that has symbiotic capabilities with any plant that you grow in your garden. The fungus is called Mycorrhizae (MIKE-or-EYE-zee) and it lives underground. What it does is attach to the roots of plants and grows downward, deeper into the soil than the plant's roots can reach, creating a large fibrous network of tube-like structures that reach down into the soil to get water and nutrients for the plant that the plant couldn't otherwise reach on its own. It almost acts as an extension of the roots. In return, the plant gives the Mycorrhizae sugars made from photosynthesis. From the perspective of the Mycorrizhae, this amount of sugar is more than it could get on its own without the plant, making it a symbiotic relationship. The overall result, the plant grows bigger, is healthier, and yields more for harvest than it would without this beneficial fungus.
You can buy Mycorrizhae at the store or online, and all you have to do is sprinkle it in your garden
On the left is a basil plant that was given the Mycorrizhae fungus, and on the right was the control: basil not given the fungus

One of the things I learned was to compress and bandage severe bleeding.
Recently I was on a camping trip when a friend split open his lip when a piece of firewood hit him in the mouth while chopping.
Firm compression with wadded gauze, after about 15 min, stopped the serious blood flow.
But I was at a loss as to how bandage the wound once the bleeding has stopped.
So how does one bandage a mouth wound, especially a lip?

Selection was Friday through Monday. Friday meant 12:01 am, a pair of candidates racing toward the building at 12:04 were sent home. At 12:10 am a 25 question multiple choice test was given, right on the gym floor. At 12:30 am the PT test started a one mile run in boots, long pants, long shirt, flak jacket and steel pot. The run wasn’t that challenging with a 10 minute time limit. Before the next event two candidates were removed for failing the written test.
The next test was pull-ups, again it wasn’t overly challenging. The standard was three good pullups wearing boots, long pants, long shirt, flak jacket and steel pot. Everyone passed.
The final test of the night was pushups while the standard was twenty, in the now customary wearing boots, long pants, long shirt, flak jacket and steel pot, candidates were encouraged to do at least twenty two in the http://ift.tt/1Mc39If. Again everyone passed.
At shortly after 1:15 am they assembled in the gym of the unused high school. The program director addressed them. “I am Dr. John Henry Holliday." A few chuckles from the class. "While I am technically Dr. John Henry Holliday MD, FACEP and Professor of Emergency Medicine most people do call me Doc. Most of you know I'm also a sworn police officer and member of several SWAT teams including the city, county and State Police. I have a cadre that will be helping us throughout the course. The course will include didactic lecture, practical exercise , physical training and written tests. If you're still with us say 1900 on Monday you will be probationary members of the Tactical EMS unit. Once you complete the qualifications in the probationary stage, usually six to nine months though some do it in a few as six weeks, you will move to the apprentice phase and go on actual call outs with SWAT."
"On those tables", he motioned to the end of the gym, "are GI foam sleeping pads and poncho liners, they make a very comfortable bed." Laughs. "Ok they make a somewhat marginal bed. The other table is your food for the day, a First Strike Ration, 2,900 calories of delicious. You get one per day. Bone appatitie. There are locker rooms at either end of the gym. One is a ladies locker room the other is the men's. Use the one that best matches your anatomy. If you're unsure we're all medical professionals here consult with your colleagues. If you still can't come to a consensus let me know, I have to see that! Until told otherwise the only rooms you go into are the gym and the locker room that matches your physiology. At 0600 tomorrow you will be formed up military style in front of the gym, three squads. Lights out in 15 minutes. Welcome and good luck."
Five minutes later I had a poncho liner, foam pad and a MENU 3 Ration featuring a Honey BBQ Beef Pocket Sandwich. I found some real estate in the middle of the floor and made 'camp' such as it was. I thought about breaking into the ration pack when the lights went out. It was 1:35 am , I set my watch to 5:00 and tried to sleep .... ]]> wtr100 http://ift.tt/1WqkVJY http://ift.tt/24ksC7f Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:37:55 GMT We need to share the Good News with our neighbors. We hear all the time about the secularization of America; about how we have strayed too far from our Christian roots. That will only get worse if we don't do something. I came up with this idea and I want to see if we can make it work. Stop by the local bakery and pick up some bagels. Drop them off at a nearby place of business with a printed copy of the explanation sheet telling them what the gift is for. Let's bring America back to God, one neighbor at a time.

(There's another thread about it where I ask people on advice and talk to them in general...)
Before we start, and I honestly am not trying to brag or present myself as a super duper survival ninja commando warrior - but a week outside is not out of my physical\mental limits, and this was supposed to be the great vacation to give me some time apart from the outside world.
Unfortunately I guess this was not meant to be, and here's more or less how it went:
Day 1:
- I begin the hike later than I would have preferred. I wanted to start at sunrise and drive to my location, but I had to turn in a paper to my university which set me back a couple of hours. Instead, I arrive to my destination at 14:00. My starting point is at Kibutz Dan - way up in northern Israel, north to Kiryat Shmona. It's a fine hot Israeli day with no one around but myself, my backpack and two naked girls sunbathing topless... wait... what?!
- Two naked chicks! Yes! This is a good start! So yeah, I kid you not... there were two naked girls of (I guess) legal age sunbathing topless on the grass of the kibutz. I was confused... what do I do now? Do I go? Do I stay? Do I buy them a drink and the three of us film a short documentary on us playing pin the donkey? Then I remembered that I was married and with my head hung low I realized that I won't ever have sex with an eighteen years old girl again. Guess it was time to start walking.
- On the exit of the Kibutz there is a memorial to two Jewish soldiers dying on one of the many battles of the north. A small but grim reminder of where I live, and the cost of living there. (As if the freaking rent wasn't high enough!)
- The trail was a bit confusing but I think I made it to the Shnir stream - a stream of water I was supposed to cross on my trip. Alas - turns out that it's a national reserve and that it costs money to enter. Also turns out that it's open until 16:00 and I came there at 16:19. Well screw me gently, now what?! I was standing in front of a large security gate with big signs saying no entry was allowed and that any perpitrators would be punished. Yeah...
- So as not to incriminate myself any further I would skip describing the next part of my trip, but I will tell you this. From now on I will ALWAYS take a leatherman over a swiss army knife. A cutter is an invaluable tool, one an SAK just does not have. (Also... barbed wire sucks!)
- I'm walking walking walking. No more water streams nor naked women. Just me myself and the trail. I'm making rather good progress. I try to take a 15 minute break every two hours of walking, just to let my feet breathe and check for blisters. So far so good.
- At some point towards the end of the day I got a bit lost and sidetracked away from the trail. That cost me about an hour and a half of walking and by the time I got back to the trail it was already dark. I made sure I was now on the right path and set up my tent. Sleepy time!
- Ok so I may have miscalculated the warmth of Israel a bit and realized that it was bloody cold inside said tent! Luckily - I had a small survival blanket (one of those 2 dollar cheap stuff you buy from china... yeah... don't laugh at me). It made a HUGE difference and I managed to sleep the rest of the night peacefully.
Day 2:
- I wake up with an eery pain in my left knee. What the shikesies is that? Oh well, it'll probably go over in a bit. I gather my gear and start walking.
- I arrive to Kefar Giladi - the resting place of the warriors who fell at the battle of Tel Hai. An impressive monument in the form of a roaring lion stands over their burial place. All eight of them were initially buried in a mass grave, but their bravery was immortalized in the form of the lion statue. May they rest in peace. Oh... there was also a statue of Moses around there for some reason. I have no idea why or what for.
- Climbing up to Kefar Giladi was not so difficult, and from it leads "The Path of the Wounded" - a man made path through a forest, through which the wounded of Tel Hai were transfered to Kefar Giladi for treatment\burial. It's walking down hill and at some points there are man made steps. My left knee dislikes those steps. It cries with pain with every step, reminding me that something is wrong. I don't know much about knees but I tell myself that when I get out of this road\forest - I'm going to give it a rest.
- I'm resting now and as I lie lazily on the side of the trail I meet another traveller. We share some food\drinks and decide to keep walking together. He is no, I repeat, NOT a naked chick. Oh well, lightning can't strike naked twice.
- Up ahead of us is a climb of several hours to a top of a mounain. I think that I'm doing rather fine myself, when my newly found companion suddenly asks me if there is something wrong with my knee. I say that yes and ask how did he know - he tells me that he's a cyropractor and he sees that I'm walking with a locked left knee - which indicates I can't bend it properly. Well hot damn... it's a knee doctor. It's even better than a naked chick at this moment! You just can't make this stuff up... (Well, you could... but I'm not. Honestly.)
- He examines the knee but sees no swelling\visible damage and I assure him that I can take the pain and continue with the climb. We climb that evil cursed mountain up that road for a couple of hours and by the time we finish the ascend I want to chop that foot clean off. All this time that we walked we kept hearing artillery fire from the Syrian border. I know that there's a sort of a civil war there and let me tell you - those guys aren't taking any lunch breaks! Well good for them. Let them keep at it I say.
- We now begin the descent to lower elevation, through a natural field of stones, rocks and other evil objects on to which my injured foot would stumble every thirty seconds. Going down was painful, but each bump would send my injured knee bending in so many unwanted directions that I cried and moaned as if I was an adult film actor. And it was not of one of those gentle films with plot and foreplay - oh no, it was one of those films with whips and ball gags and other things that just should NOT be in there!
- It's about 17:00 now, I have been walking on and off for 10 hours with an injured leg. We have finished the descent and I know now that I won't be able to continue tomorrow. I'm limping on one foot, pondering where I can call for evac and go home. According to our maps there is a border police outpost we should be stopping by - but that's another couple of miles. Normally I could have done it in an hour. Now - I do it in three.
- It's 20:00, we arrive to the outpost, an old fortress probably left abandoned now. I call my emergency number for evacuation and tell him my coordinates. (It was my dad. Yes, I called my parents to come pick me up. I am so manly!)
- As I sit there waiting for my ride to come, I feel bummed out of my skull. My seven days trip turned into a two days one, and I just know I'll have to lie in bed and mope for a couple days more. The good news are that I now know that there was no permanent damage and that I'm pretty much certain I'll do this trip again.
The end. ]]> Wilderness Survival, Hiking and Camping Forum BadExample http://ift.tt/24ksDYN http://ift.tt/1WqkUG5 Wed, 27 Apr 2016 14:50:05 GMT Can anyone point me towards a forum or other on-line resource to begin understanding more about school buses?
