I'm in S.E. Michigan and I want to learn how to grow my own food. I am a complete beginner, so I thought that I would try growing Common Milkweed from seeds. I planted 120 seeds in newspaper pots filled with potting mix. 70 of them began growing and grew into 3" tall seedlings with thin stems and two leaves each.
I started to harden them off by putting them outside out of the sun for about an hour for the last three days and all of them fell over. I pulled a few out and they barely had any roots at all (half inch max). I pulled all of them out and they were all the same.
Can anyone offer thoughts or advice? This was my first serious attempt and I am pretty disheartened after such a huge failure.
I want to learn how to grow from seed without the use of grow lights, heat mats or modern chemicals; the way they have been growing for millennia.
