programmers/chips?

Do any of you use one or the other in your vehicle? Do you think they are actually worth the money, see the that much gain in hp/shifting/fuel mileage?

I have tossed the idea around a lot about getting one for my 02 Sierra, But i have only read mixed reviews , and dont know anyone personally who uses one. Truck only has 87k on is still, plan on having it until its not driveable anymore. This isnt a every day driver either. Its normally pulling a fish house/ 4 wheeler in the winter, and a boat in the summer.
