i see a lot of precious metals talked about as a shtf currency, i think it allows you to move some wealth around easily, it is an insurance policy not an investment. it may become currency when everything settles but not right away.

ok you are in venezuela there is no food no medicine , no way out you have a solid gold anvil, i have a case of mre's , so what is worth more, you and your family are starving, how much is the case of mre's worth, in the usa about 50-60 bucks, if your family is starving it is worth a gold anvil. because that is all you have to trade.

farfal has talked about what was worth what in his experiences . he talks about food, guns and ammo, medicine, alcohol as the most traded items. because it is what you need , not what you want that counts, gold anvils fall far down on that list.
