Weapons inspections...

So, I've been out of country for the past six months and it's been longer since I took my primary home defensive rifle to the range...that became a great reminder and lesson about inspecting you firearms. I had the first failure in several years from any of my ARs. This rifle has several hundred run through it flawlessly (added new bbl and bolt assembly a year ago) and it's been in a couple of classes with zero issues.

Well, at the range, it was a single shot rifle. I was able to quickly diagnose the issue (thinking it was the gas tube initially), but the bolt carrier key was really lose. I was pretty surprised that it bled off that much gas that there was zero bolt movement. The bolt carrier key screws were staked, but not good enough evidently.

It was an easy fix with some lock-tight and hex bit, but I'll replace it with a new bolt assembly with a much better staking job. I had another rifle at the range, but this still allowed me to practice some of my transition drills

I guess it's better to find out about this at the range than when needed at 0300 AM.
